Make-up exams – 4/9/17
Dr. Lowery,
I am one of the students making up their missed quiz this coming Friday (4/14/17 @ 8:00 a,m.) for your CVEN 305 course. The quiz I missed was the one directly after spring break when you sent the email to inform us that it would be to our benefit to totally understand shear and moment diagrams. I was wondering if the make up quiz is general and could cover anything we have covered in the class up to this point (yes) or if it will be similar to the one that I missed (no).
Thanks,
Joe
Joe:
Sorry, but it will not be possible to give everyone a quiz similar to the one they missed.

Make-up exams – 3/6/17
You guys are getting sick like crazy, and it’s getting impossible to give everyone a make-up the day after you miss a quiz, nor even possible to get you to agree to a time to take it when there are more than two of you.
So we are just going to wait until towards the end of the semester and I will set a time just like a major exam. We will give a common make-up quiz then. If you missed more than one or two, expect some serious questions about the length of your illness, or whatever. If you have a note from me saying you can take them, you will just take a series of make-ups.
We may, if necessary, do the same thing again later at the end of the semester.
Q-dropping CVEN 305 – 3/22/17
Nonsense. Way too early to be considering that. No way you should let a simple class like this trip you up.
Making up missed weekly exams – 4/1/17 (last year)
Starting at 8:00 a.m. on 4/14/2017 I will give make-up quizzes for those students who contacted me by email and I agreed to your absence, or who have University excused absences for missed weekly exams. That’s our Reading Day, so you don’t have another class at that time. I have reserved our regular classroom so we have a place for all 50 or so of you to take make-up exams. You will have 25 minutes to work the quiz and hand it in. Quizzes handed in past 25.00000 minutes will be worth half credit.
If you missed a second quiz, I will hand you a second one for which you will have another 25 minutes, etc., until you have made up however many you missed.
Dr. Lowery: How many more quizzes will we be taking and
Please see the syllabus stating that you could have as many as one weekly quiz each Wednesday throughout the semester. Thus, checking a calendar you could calculate that you could potentially have another 4 weekly exams beyond the 9 you already had.
can you tell us what will they cover? It’s getting difficult to know what to study as we comer [sic] so many things.
Sorry, but no. You are responsible for everything up to the date of any quiz. Sometime between now and graduation, someone is still likely to want to know if you have finally learned how to find forces in truss members and the resulting force on a pin, so …
